Most beers begin life as barley. Other grains can be used, but they are often used in conjunction with barley. It is then malted, mashed, lautered until you get wort, then boiled while adding hops, and lastly fermented. Sound simple? This is why beer is so amazing, you can dramatically change the beer that you get by fiddling with the process (hopefully not for the worse), and the ingredient options are limitless.
This page will be dedicated to keeping track of all the different styles out there. It is currently a work in progress.
